Visit Nice
Festival of the disguised figures, the Carnival of Nice is one of the main events of the year. Carnival processions and flower battles, music and streamers, liveliness and dance, all that makes these days on the “Promenade des Anglais” in February unforgettable.
Another traditional event is the Nice Jazz Festival which takes place in summer in the arenas and gardens of Cimiez; making the olive trees of the “Villa Matisse” move in the same rhythm. This festival has successfully integrated different styles of music from other continents and is now one of the three most important events of this kind in Europe.
It is recommended to stroll around in the city-centre of the Capital of the French Riviera. Walk from the Albert 1st gardens to Place Massena and the avenue Jacques Médecin by visiting the commercial centre Nice Etoile and the nearby pedestrian precinct with its “de luxe” boutiques and shops.
Another recommendation: Take a stroll in the park of the former castle which is located between the Promenade des Anglais and the harbour. Access either by taking the lift or, for the more courageous ones, by climbing the 213 stairs. On the top, the view onto the “Baie des Anges” is incomparable.
On the heights of Cimiez, the residential quarter of Nice, you’ll find the Matisse museum and the Roman amphitheatre, just a few minutes away from the city-centre (by bus).
Another picturesque treasure to discover: The old town, located between the river Paillon and the harbour, with its narrow and shady small streets and alleys, its art galleries, its genuine small restaurants, its shops for cloth or traditional products and the Cours Saleya, the place where the picturesque flower market takes place every day and on Monday mornings the flea market which is worth to see it.
Nice is also a very cultural city: there are two operas, 25 theatres, about 50 show halls and a hundred museums and monuments such as the “Musée department des Arts Asiatiques”, the Palais Masséna, the museum of art and history, the museum for modern and contemporary art, the Chagall museum, the museum for naïve art and the Villa Arson, just to name a few. The entrance of the municipal museums is free every first and third Sunday of the month.
Nice is a so a convention city thanks to the “Acropolis”, its convention and exhibition centre with 17 000 m2 of infrastructure, several auditoriums and adaptable spaces.
In Nice one can find all kind of leisure activities: The sea with its private or public beaches or a small golf course at the Golf Country Club of Nice, next to the commercial centre “Lingostière” on the route de Grenoble.
